If you are a beginner and are just starting
in a game then you must play cautiously in the beginning.
Take your time to settle down and understand the table. However,
if you are an aggressive player by nature or straightaway
get some high value hands then by all means bet heavy from
the start. If the other players involved are playing with
caution you can probably get them out of the game by force.
In the beginning avoid tables with high stakes. Tables with high stakes attract
players with better skills. You could probably watch these tables and pick
up a thing or two to try at the lower level tables.
If you are dealt a strong pre flop hand then you should play aggressively.
By doing this you can get money into the pot and force the weaker players to
fold. Try to get the weak hands out of the way because they might get lucky
on the flop.
Don't give up if you lose. You probably made a mistake and you should learn
from it. Going over your mistake might give you some information, which might
help you the next time. Also try to play as often as possible. Each time you
play you will gain more and more experience that will help you in the future.
Play carefully when you are dealt a low pair and bet only when it is cheap.
If you don't come up with a three of a kind or a two pair after the flop is
open then it would be best for you to fold.
You should always watch out for uniform flops like seven, eight, nine because
even if you are holding the best pair possible, one of the other players will
most probably make a straight. Also avoid playing when the flop cards turn
out to be of the same suit. If this happens then there is every chance that
one of the other players will come up with a flush hand.
Always keep an eye on your opponents' game. See when they tend to raise, bet,
fold or call. Understanding your opponents' game will able you to predict their
moves sometimes. This in turn will help you make your strategy. It can even
be worth deliberately getting caught playing a bluff in a certain way, thus
making it harder for opponents to read your game.
Learn the probabilities of making certain hands in any given situation. A player,
who plays the odds well, is a player who plays well.
Avoid playing with every hand you get. If your cards are not forming a good
hand then fold immediately.
Keep in mind to always change your game strategy once in a while. If you keep
plying with the same game plan every time then the other players will be able
to read your every move.
Keep these tips at hand. Using them might enable you to win big pots.
