A good pre flop strategy
is essential while playing Texas Hold'em Poker.
Suppose there are many players involved in the game then
you will want to be careful. The better option would be to
play a tight game. The reason for this is that if there are
many players in the game then there is every chance that
one of the other players has a better hand than you in the
pocket hand itself. Also you have to be careful in the larger
games because there are more players. There is every possibility
that one other player's hand will fit the flop much better.
It is very difficult to win the pot if there is more competition.
Lets look at the contrary scenario. Imagine that you are playing with only a
few people. Suppose one of the players is raising every hand pre flop, in this
case also the better option is to play a tight game. It is no big worry if this
player wins the blinds, because you can have your revenge when you have a strong
hand in the pocket pre flop.
If you are a beginner and don't have a lot of money to play with then you will
want to bet carefully. You will have to make the right decision as to which hand
to bet on and hope that the other players will get drawn in. by doing this you
will be able to create a larger pot, which you might win. The best strategy for
you would be to be all-in before the flop is dealt. People in late position have
the ability to influence the size of the pot much more than those in early position.
This is especially true pre-flop.
Another significant issue concerning pre flop strategy is the amount of risks
a player is prepared to take. Poker players have different styles; some play
aggressively pre flop and others don't. Players who want larger pots, but don't
mind losing a few hands will want to raise pre flop, particularly if they are
in the late position. Others are as careful as possible pre flop, managing a
winning hand rarely. This risk aspect really depends on your approach to playing.
It also depends on how you judge your opponents.
In order to carry out this strategy, it is important to get good cards. You would
want a hand that has high value, or better the skill to be the best hand. The
better your cards are the better the chances of winning. That combined with a
good pre flop strategy should give you the ability to win many pots.
