While playing Texas Hold'em
Poker there are many aspects you will have to concentrate
on. One of these will be knowing the value of your hand.
Hand rankings should be known perfectly because it will be
the basis of your game strategy. Following are the hand rankings
in a ascending order:
High Card - A high card hand is
when you have no pairs. You are playing with only one high
card like an ace or queen etc.
Pair - A pair is when you have
a pair of cards of the same rank. For example suppose you
have two kings, then you have a pair. The best pair would
be a pair of aces while the worst would be a pair of two's.
Two Pair - This is when you have
two pairs in your five-card hand. For example you have a
six, nine, nine, king, king then you have a two pair.
Three of a Kind - As the name suggests,
this is a hand with three cards of the same rank. This kind
of hand is also called trips. For example, when you get three
kings.
Straight - When you get your five
cards in a sequence it is known as a Straight hand. For example
ace, two, three, four, five. The ace can be used as a high
or low card.
Flush - when you get a flush it
means that you have five cards of the same suit. For example,
five spades.
Full House - A full house is when
you get a hand, which is a combination of a Pair and a Three
of a Kind.
Four of a Kind - It is just like
three of a kind, except that you get four cards of the same
rank. For example, six, king, king, king, king.
Straight Flush - A straight flush
is when you get the cards in a sequence and the same suit.
For example, six, seven, eight, nine, ten of hearts.
Royal Flush - A royal flush is
the best possible hand you can get. A royal flush is basically
straight flush but only when it is ten, jack, queen, king,
ace of the same suit. However, getting a royal flush during
a game of Texas Hold'em Poker is very rare.
It is important to keep these in mind when you are involved in a game of Texas
Hold'em Poker. Knowing the hand rankings properly will help you win many pots.
