More often than not the casino or the online Poker room you are playing at will have the edge over you. In Poker terminology there is a term known as the Rake. This rake is built in such a way that the casino/poker room takes your money away from you in small amounts. The rake will make you part with your money in small amounts and you will not even notice it until you have lost a significant amount. However there are certain aspects that may tip the scales in your favor.

The common rule among most Poker rooms is to take in the money on the table i.e. the pot, once it reaches a specific amount. To avoid losing money in this fashion you should play in a style opposite to the table. When you use strategies such as blind stealing or buying free cards you might be able to take advantage of the tight players. Blind stealing is simply betting when only blinds are left in the game pre-flop. You can raise from the small blind position or from the position just before the small blind (usually the dealer's position) to try and steal the cost of the two blinds. Suppose you are in the last position on the table then buying a free card should be the move you make. You should make a bet when no one else has raised post flop. Such a move will normally cut down the players. If any of the other players continue then their move would be to check you. If this happens, then there is no compulsion to bet when your turn comes. This is why this strategy is called a free card. This particular move can also be used with drawing hands.

Assume that you are playing with some aggressive players. If that is the case, then you should tighten up while playing. You should only continue in a game when you get the best of hands and fold when you get a weak game. The reason for this is the same reason for playing tight. You will get raked when you win, but if you win just one extra big hand for playing like this, you'll have covered the cost of the rake. In many casinos, you can ask for a rake break. A rake break is when you ask for the rake to be reduced or eliminated if the game becomes short handed.
