  Beginners Guide

As a beginner you will have to keep in mind the steps that take place during a game of Texas Hold'em Poker. Lets us look at a typical round of betting that would go s follows:

The dealer begins with the opening deal. This basically means that every player is given two cards. These cards are dealt to them face down. The Poker terms for these cards are hole cards or pocket cards. However, before he deals the cards, the first two players to the left of the dealer are required to post blind bets. Small Blind (SB) and Big Blind (BB) are forced bets and used to stimulate some action and get the game going. After the opening deal has been made, the first round of betting starts with the player to the left of the big blind. Each player has the option to call, raise or bet. The big blind can raise the pot if no one else does. The dealer then burns a card, after which he deals three community cards. They are dealt face up. These three cards are called the flop, but the five community cards together are known as the board. After this is the second round of betting, that starts with the player on the left on the dealer button. Again the players have the option to call, raise, fold or bet. Then the dealer burns another card and puts one more card with the community cards. This is the fourth card and it is known as the turn card or fourth street. A third round of betting follows, after which the dealer puts one final card with the other common cards. This card is commonly called the fifth street or the river card. After this card is dealt a final round of betting is carried out. This round of betting is played in the same way as the other rounds. After all the betting takes place, the showdown between the players begins. The players must show their hands starting with the bettor or last raiser showing first. You must be aware of all the possible combinations you can make with your 'hole cards' and the 'community cards' and choose the best possible one so that you can win the pot. Remember that the highest five-card hand will win the pot, unless there is a tie. If a tie takes place then the two winning hands will have to split the pot equally.

This is how a game of Texas Hold'em Poker unfolds. Now that you have some of the basics down, you could practice with your friends.
